Requesting Support

Canadian Forces Combat Camera is a strategic public affairs asset dedicated to supporting military operations. Units or commands that are interested in requesting Combat Camera support for their operations or exercises should consider the following:

  • Determine the importance of your operation, exercise, or activity
  • Plan early. There are only four Combat Camera teams available. The earlier the unit is contacted, the better the chances a team will be deployed to support your activity
  • Go through your appropriate chain of command Public Affairs Officer to request Combat Camera support
  • Liaise early with the Combat Camera officers
  • Identify messages, subjects for interview, activities to cover, etc.
  • Prepare your unit/operation for Combat Camera by including notice in the Operational Order and briefing unit members
  • Be prepared to arrange logistical support and embedding opportunities for Combat Camera

Some examples of some of the Public Affairs services/capabilities Combat Camera offers:

  • The collection and distribution professional quality of photographs for media use
  • The collection and distribution professional quality video for media use
  • Imagery and public affairs support for media interviews - telephone, radio, double-enders, and in some circumstances live feeds
  • Transmission of imagery from deployed operations using portable satellite transmitters
  • Post production of photo and video Public Affairs products

Why is it important to use Combat Camera?

  • If the media is not present Combat Camera can feed footage from anywhere in the world and support interviews with CF personnel on location. We can bring the CF to the media if the media are unable to go where the CF is operating.
  • Even if several media agencies are present at an event, not all will be available. Combat Camera imagery is accessible to all media.
  • Combat Camera distributes their public affairs products directly to Canadians through the Internet without the involvement of the media. Combat Camera can help deliver your message directly to Canadians.
  • If a CF imagery team does not capture your operation or exercise there will be no imagery for future use. Media imagery is not available for CF use and will only be used by the agency that owns the footage. If the military owns the footage it can be used and shared for years. Combat Camera footage is distributed to all media outlets, other Government departments, documentary companies, specialty cable channels, and the general public.
